Mustard Book of the Week the Energy Bus by Jon Gordon

Now that we are all back into a routine after the festive break, have uncovered our why, I thought that an apt book for this week would be The Energy Bus by Jon Gordon.

This book is sub titled “10 rules to fuel your life, work, and team with positive energy.” The book is written as a fictional account of a manager whose life is rapidly plummeting to rock bottom. His wife has given him an ultimatum, and as he is approaching a product launch his car breaks down. He is forced to take a bus and the driver inspires him with positive energy and the ten rules.

This book was given to me by my first business advisory client. Thanks to Andrea Callanan at sing and inspire, an employee engagement and team building company. They loved this book and went on to build the inspireme brand.

We engage with successful companies, to help take them to the next level. There is inevitably some change, and change is disruptive (as covered by who moved my cheese), but we want people with positive energy rather than the energy drainers. We use analogies from this book and often say “the bus is leaving, we would like you on it, have fun and enjoy the ride”.

Finally, I will say that this book isn’t for everyone. It is very American, has some religious themes and some might not be able to relate to it. For those of you that are believe in positive energy, enjoy!
