Background
Orion TS Ltd is an electrical contracting business that works with local and national commercial and industrial businesses, helping to maintain and expand their existing electrical installations. They also provide new installation services to businesses looking to grow their operations.
They pride themselves on their ‘Hassle Free’ approach, helping their clients to achieve their goals without the usual contracting headaches.
Challenges
The nature of the industry means that, as a whole, the business is very reactive. This was making it difficult for them to look further ahead than 3 or 4 weeks. Whilst business owner, Daniel Dawes, knew they needed to be paying attention to where they wanted to be in 6 to 12 months’ time, he was struggling to find the time and headspace to actually do that.
Having not worked with a business advisor before Daniel didn’t know what to expect. He was worried that he wouldn’t be able to make the time he felt was required to get the most out of Helen’s knowledge.
By having planned meetings each month with Helen it was much easier than he expected to pull himself away from the day to day running of the business and really focus on the bigger items that matter.
How we helped
Using the Mustard Diagnostic, we were able to identify where Orion was doing well, and what needed to be put into place to create the foundations for stable, sustainable growth

- Help him to define his ideal customer, what drives them, and how Orion is uniquely placed to help them.
- Advise on his next significant hire – key to securing the growth of the company.
Results
Since working with Helen, Orion have restructured their team and worked through a challenging period. Everything Daniel and Helen have discussed in the past 12 months has been implemented and the business has improved as a result. The work they have done in that time has put Orion in a great position moving forward as they look for record growth.
