How and why did we choose Mustard as name?

At Mustard, we practice what we preach. The third step in our eight step process is brand, and we take our brand very seriously. The name of the company is a very important component of our brand.

We are fortunate to have a Huw David Design, a leading brand agency as our brand partners, and their naming workshop was a fantastic experience for us. We wanted an emotive name that was memorable, easy to pronounce and spell, and tied into our values. Most of the other business advisory groups are descriptive names such as Your Business Advisers, or named after the founders such and Hill and Jones. We wanted something more innovative or challenging and something that could be trusted. Also something that we could have some fun with.

We liked Mustard as it ticked all those boxes for us. Also we could use “hot as mustard”, “cut the mustard”, “mustard seeds” etc and gave us a lot of scope with the branding. We love the arrows in the M and the uses that they can be put to – pointing you in the right direction; accelerating value; growing your business; hitting targets etc.

Our values.

Trust – the obligation or responsibility imposed on a person in whom confidence or authority is placed. We want to be more than a business advisor to our clients. We will earn the title of trusted advisor by always being one.

Honesty – the quality of being honest (honourable in principles, intentions and actions); uprightness and fairness. We believe in honesty in everything that we do and in all our relationships with clients, suppliers, licensees, partners and between ourselves.

Innovation – something new or different introduced. We are bringing a new and fresh approach to business advice. We have a Mustard Diagnostic Tool to identify the value and opportunities in businesses, along with a Mustard 8 Step Process to address these, and Mustard Goal Setting software to monitor progress against the action plan. We are accredited in the Five Sciences from TTI Success Insights, a global leader in Behaviours, Motivators, Acumen, Competencies and EQ. We will continue to innovate.

Fun – enjoyment or playfulness. Advising businesses is serious stuff, but we aren’t going to lose sight of having some fun. We are going to enjoy the ride. Hope you do too.
